Kids Help Phone Expands Feel Out Loud

The National Bank Open rebrands as a cultural and social tennis event with Sid Lee's 'Welcome to the Tennis Playground' campaign, targeting new and younger audiences.

Redefining What “Help” Means for Canadian Youth

Seventy-five percent of KHP users share something they have never told anyone else. The updated campaign addresses the reality that for many youth, the word “help” can feel overwhelming, intimidating, or out of reach. Katherine Hay, President & Co-CEO (Retired Designate) of KHP, emphasizes that the movement now acknowledges the full spectrum of emotions youth experience — from eco-anxiety and bullying to relationship struggles and economic stress.

Insights Driving the “Feel Out Loud” Evolution

KHP’s new chapter is built on unmatched data and youth feedback. Key insights include:

  • Youth aged 13 and under reaching out about suicide has more than doubled in four years.
  • In 2024, Black and Indigenous youth accessed KHP services at twice their population proportion.
  • Nearly 20% of conversations in the last six months were about economy or employment.
  • Reports of sexual abuse increased by 28% between 2023 and 2024.
  • 49% of youth said they would have ignored their issues without KHP support.

Meeting the Mental Health Crisis with Action

“We are witnessing a mental health crisis among youth in Canada,” says Alisa Simon, Group Head and Executive Vice President, e-Mental Health Transformation and Clinical Services at KHP. “Yet we also see something powerful — young people turning to us when they feel like no one else will understand. Feel Out Loud gives voice to those experiences and calls on adults to help us meet this growing need.”

Empowering Youth Through Inclusive and Accessible Support

The Feel Out Loud movement continues to position KHP as a safe, 24/7, free, confidential, and multilingual helpline for all youth in Canada. By amplifying stories of courage and leveraging advanced insights, the campaign invites Canadians to donate, support, and spread awareness to ensure every young person feels heard.
